Now that we are moving towards the EU membership, let's finish the job!

08 November, 2023

Georgia is one step closer to the EU membership. According to the Information Integrity Coalition, the positive assessment of the European Commission confirms that European allies see Georgia's place in the European family.

According to Nino Dolidze, Executive Director of "ISFED", a member organization of the Information Integrity Coalition, the response of the European Commission is proof that the Commission sees and appreciates the commitment of Georgian citizens to European values.

"Returning to the European family turned out to be quite a difficult path for generations, this path was accompanied by many challenges, successes and failures. On this road, there were frequent differences of opinion, mutual accusations and confrontations, nevertheless, the citizens of Georgia never stopped moving towards the set goal. The received status is the result of this struggle and this day belongs to the people." - declares Dolidze, who explains that from today onwards, Georgia must actively work on improving all the issues that the European Commission gave to the country in the form of a recommendation: "Now is the time for reforms, now it is necessary to bring things to an end."

Giorgi Melashvili, xecutive director of another member organization of the coalition, "European-Georgian Institute", focuses on taking effective steps and united efforts. According to Melashvili, in terms of reforms, Georgia is significantly behind Ukraine and Moldova, therefore, it has more work to do.

"We share the joy of our friends, Ukraine and Moldova, regarding the opening of EU accession negotiations. This is a great day for our Ukrainian and Moldovan partners. We were often considered as a trio, but recent events have shown that Georgia has much more to do for the EU membership, so we should accelerate the reform process and become the leader of this trio again. Instead of making political accusations, all parties should work actively to implement the recommendations that Georgia received from the European Commission," says Melashvili.
